Brian McFadden talks solo career, forthcoming album Set In Stone, as well as gay fans with GenQ.
Brain McFadden’s Love for Australia is “Set in Stone”.
GenerationQ had the pleasure to sit down with Irish singer and songwriter Brian McFadden. His second solo album, titled Set in Stone, is out through Universal Music on April 19th 2008. The first single is now available.
Brian McFadden came to fame as a member of the massive group Westlife. Since leaving the group in 2004, Brian’s first solo release, Irish Son, went to number one in the UK and his home country Ireland. Brian’s music has changed so much since his first album to now, and one of the main reasons for this, he says, is Delta Goodrem, who is without a doubt the inspiration for his new single and a few tracks on the new album Set in Stone.
Brian lets us know that he is in a much happier place in his life that earlier on. “Irish Son was written more about some negative times in my life, while Set in Stone was written from a positive place in my life”. Brian has no trouble expressing his love for Australia and of course Delta. “Delta is one of the most positive things to ever happen to me” he says with a huge smile on his face.
The first single, Like Only a Woman Can, is a sensual ballad with a strong harmony, clearly showing what amazing song writing talent, and voice Brian has. The title, Set In Stone, comes from a personal conversation that Brian had with a friend where he was told, “nothing in life is Set in Stone” he tells us.
Brian’s lyric ideas come from just thinking, taking time to just feel the need to write lyrics whenever if he can. “This new album is my own creation from start to finish, I had complete control”. “The approach to making my new album took time and was more thought out that my first album”. This result is clear from the first track on the album called Twisted.
While the first single to be released is a ballad, the album has a brilliant mix of pop and rock as well. There is a strong guitar sound from the first track. Another brilliant track on the album is Get Away. This song has it all in one, pop, rock, and a strong drum sound. I asked Brian if this would become a future single he said nothing is confirmed at this stage but it has had a good reaction.
Brian also calls Bryan Adams a friend of his, and this friendship lead to them performing during Bryan Adams' show in Melbourne in 2005. This was an amazing experience, McFadden tells us. This was a special treat for the fans.
Brian has many gay fans from all over the world. His craziest experience was while performing at G-A-Y in London, one guy asked Brian to sign his back, only to find out months later that he had his autograph turned into a permanent tattoo.
Brian McFadden's new single Like Only a Woman Can is now on sale, with a forthcoming album Set In Stone released on 19 April.
