Jonas Brothers: The New Generation Of Bro-Band

Published Apr 8, 2008
Jonas Brothers

A lot of people think that songs like MMMBop, by sib-band Hanson, are childish and therefore rubbish, but the fact of the matter is that these songs make people feel good.  All you have to do is get rid of any fears and inhibitions you may have about what other people will think about it.  Art Alexakis, lead singer of 90's rock act Everclear, claims that this is one of his favourite songs, simply because it's upbeat and happy.  Considering the state of the world today, this could be something that is highly needed.

Disney Channel fans, especially those who love Hannah Montana, will be familiar with the work of another young band of brothers from New Jersey called The Jonas Brothers.  These youngsters (19yo Kevin, 17yo Joe, and 14yo Nick) are brothers who have just released their 2nd, self-titled, album.  Despite their age, these guys have got some amazing songs behind them.  Like Hanson, their voices may be a little squeaky, and they might seem a bit childish, but if you actually listen to them without any prejudice, and hear them for what they are, these songs truly are fantastic!

Already, 4 tracks have been released on single in the USA, these being Hold On, S.O.S., That's The Way We Roll, and When You Look Me In The Eyes.  The last track, in particular, shows how mature these guys can be.  It's a ballad which talks about how great it feels to be looked into the eyes by a loved one, and feel the love flowing into your soul.

Other tracks on the album include Australia (which is about the girl of their dreams being from Australia), Year 3000 (a cover of the hit single by UK act Busted), and Kids Of The Future, a reworked version of Kids In America, from the soundtrack to Meet The Robinsons.  Also included is a bonus track, We Got The Party, featuring Hannah Montana.

Surprisingly, the album contains more guitar distortion than most young boy bands have in their songs.  For those of us who love our rock music, this is something we will particularly enjoy.

Some people may think the Jonas Brothers are just another bro-band that will disappear in the next couple of years, but I'm sure they will be around for a long time to come!

Jonas Brothers is out now through EMI Music.
