Taylor Dayne, iconic singer from the 1980's and 1990's, has returned with her first studio album in 10 years, Satisfied. Taylor had 10 Top Ten hits from her first few albums, including I'll Be Your Shelter, Send Me A Lover, Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, and Tell It To My Heart.
Satisfied features 4 covers, 4 songs co-written by Taylor, and 5 other originals. Her cover versions are quite something you'd need to hear to believe. For instance, her version of Under The Bridge (the Red Hot Chili Peppers classic) is based on piano, and when you put Taylor's vocals to it, it really becomes a song of its own! Then there's the Dayne-ated version of I'm Kissing You (by Des'ree, from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack), which contains a drumbeat and a new bridge.
The first single to be released from the album, Beautiful, is a bit of a new sound for Taylor, and is sure to welcome her into the "noughties" with legions of new fans! This song was co-written by Taylor, and is every bit as catchy as I'll Be Your Shelter ("Na na nana na na, na na nana na na, na na nana na na, na na na na"). The video clip for this song also features some pretty hot shots of topless guys as well, which will certainly appeal to Taylor's many gay fans. Also co-written by Taylor, one of the most beautiful tracks on the album is Hymn, which features Taylor backed only by piano and some strings. Not only is this song lyrically beautiful, but also shows off her voice, and I'm hoping it will lead to an album of her with a Symphony Orchestra, as Hymn shows how well her voice goes with strings!
Taylor doesn't want this to be known as her "comeback album", as she's never really gone away. The past five years, she's been raising her twins, Levi and Astaria, as well as focussing on her acting, with roles in Love Affair, Cold Case, Rescue Me, and the musical Aida.
Satisfied marks a certain return to the charts for Taylor Dayne, and will be released everywhere on February 5th. The first single, Beautiful, is available digitally at iTunes.
While it's been nice having the occasional dance song from Taylor over the last several years, I look forward to another album. The woman has a wonderful way with a ballad, and as much as I love her uptempo efforts, her ballads are even more touching. February 5th, hurry up and get here!
