Island Records Australia Signs Andy Bull

Island Records Australia is pleased to announce the signing of Sydney based singer, songwriter and pianist Andy Bull to its Australian artist roster.

Andy began his musical life as a kid playing on the parlour piano, pump organ and harpsichord his keyboard enthusiast father had collected through his travels. Soon eclipsing his father's own abilities at the piano, a number of crucial records came into Andy's life very early on - Carol King's Tapestry, Ben Folds Five Whatever and Ever Amen, Led Zeppelin's Led Zep II, A Tribe Called Quest's Low End Theory, Marvin Gaye's What’s Going On, Neil Young's Harvest.

It is the discovery of these records at a very early age which explains the sophistication Andy displays in his own song writing and vocal delivery today. The result is a fresh but stylishly classic blend of soul, rock and tin-pan alley era song writing and lyricism envisioned through an approach that straddles both brash new edge production and vintage live recording techniques.

Michael Taylor, General Manager A&R Island Records Australia stated after signing Andy, ‘Andy is the type of artist that transcends genres and categories and that’s part of what makes him so special.  He truly is an artist that is cutting his own path.  Island Records Australia is dedicated to continuing the tradition that Island US and UK have long established– amplifying visionary artists and bringing their music to audiences. We’re honoured to have Andy on Island Records and can’t wait for the world to hear his music’.

Andy is putting the finishing touches on his debut album, with sessions at New York’s legendary Electric Lady Studios and Sydney’s 301 Studios.  Top artists are already hip to Andy; with Kanye West stopping by the New York studio to hear Andy’s works-in-progress and Joss Stone personally selecting Andy to open for her Australian tour in November 2007.

Andy Bull’s debut album is set for release July 2008.
