Shihad, Mint Chicks in running for Silver Scroll

Warner Music NZ and Flying Nun Records congratulate three of our top Kiwi artists who have today been honoured with nominations for New Zealand’s most prestigious songwriting award.

Shihad’s “One Will Hear The Other”, The Mint Chicks’ “Life Will get Better Some Day” and “Bright Grey” by The Phoenix Foundation have each been given the nod.

“One Will Hear The Other” by Shihad – written and composed by Jon Toogood, Tom Larkin, Phil Knight, Karl Kippenberger and Barry Palmer, has become the most successful and fastest charting radio single to date peaking at #6 on the airplay charts. The phenomenal first single from the band’s seventh album BEAUTIFUL MACHINE, paved the way for their #1 album debut on the New Zealand RIANZ albums chart and, to date, has reached GOLD status.

“Life Will Get Better Some Day” by The Mint Chicks – written and composed by Kody Nielson, is the first track from The Mint Chick’s new incarnation as a three-piece band. “Life Will get Better Some Day”, achieved #1 status for a staggering five weeks at #1 on the Alt chart. The Mint Chicks, who recently relocated to Portland, Oregan, made the top five nomination list for the Silver Scroll in 2007 with their hit “Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!” and are currently in New Zealand to support Shihad on their national tour.

“Bright Grey” by The Phoenix Foundation – written and composed by Samuel Scott, Luke Buda, Conrad Wedde, William Ricketts, Richard Singleton and Warner Emery, was the first single from the band’s GOLD-selling album HAPPY ENDING. This is The Phoenix Foundation’s first Silver Scroll nomination and is well-deserved after their tireless touring schedule and with three critically-acclaimed albums now under their belt (HORSEPOWER, PEGASUS, HAPPY ENDING).  “Bright Grey” was accompanied by an exceptional video, directed by Oscar-nominated Taika Waititi (Two Cars One Night, Eagle Vs Shark).
