Godskitchen’s 2008 Melbourne party, ‘Angel In White’, hosted a spectacular array of sound, lighting and performers, creating the familiar atmosphere revellers have come to expect from Future Entertainment. Sporting industry greats such as Sander van Doorn, John O'Callaghan and Menno de Jong, as well as Australia’s own TyDi, Godskitchen hosted nine hours of crowd-loving performances which set the Hisense Arena (formerly Vodafone Arena) as the canvas to a striking collection of stage theatrics including insane lighting effects, industrial set design, and pillow fighting angel dancers.
Bringing the large-scale audience to a new height, Menno De Jong had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand with an impressive set that seemed to take everyone by surprise! Adding to the already jaw-dropping antics of his set, Menno positioned himself standing up on the decks with his arms in the air, in what seemed to be a command of mutual respect, and proceeded to bend down and continue to mix.
A roar filled the arena when Sander Van Doorn appeared and flood lights poured over the crowd when well-known tunes were dropped such as Sia’s The Girl You Lost To Cocaine. Fireworks spat up from the stage while darkness covered the arena. As Van Doorn introduced his own brand of dark and dirty music, with elements of trance and house, green and red lasers progressively cut through the sea of white dancers, setting the standard for the night to come. He then followed up with his own hybrid versions of Apologise by Timbaland featuring One Republic, Direct Dizko by Club Scene Investigators, and finishing up with his own popular creation Riff by, you guessed it, the one and only Sander Van Doorn.
By the time John O’Callaghan took the stage, the crowd had been prepped by some of the industry’s best trance DJ’s. As the sun was rising outside the venue, the crowd obliviously remained star-struck in the main arena as O'Callaghan continued to churn out tune after tune of uplifting, euphoric beats. Amongst the set was his trademark ’07 anthem Big Sky, featuring Audrey Gallagher, which received a big response.
The 10th anniversary event certainly lived up to its expectation as being a premier dance event offering up some of the world’s best DJ’s to the Australian crowds. And we could do little more than eat up every single second of it.
