Triple J Hottest 100 Volume 15

Published Apr 16, 2008
triple j hottest 100 vol 15

Another year, another volume of awesome alternative music from the mob at Triple J. It seems like years since I bought my first album (probably because it was). Back then, Volume 5 had songs on it such as Pauline Pantsdown and Hole. These 2 disc compilations have always had a huge following and almost every year, never disappoints. With over 700,000 votes cast for the top song, it was the biggest of all time with only 13 votes separating the top two songs.

So out of 100 of the hottest songs, 43 make it onto the CD. The music from 2007 featured on the album include the hit “Straight Lines” from silverchair (which just goes to show that overplaying can be a good thing), Daft Punk’s biggest success in years “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” rereleased as a live version and other tracks from Bloc Party, Tegan and Sara (good to see the girls get a go) as well as the Cat Empire. There was more home-grown on offer in the form of Kisschasy, Missy Higgins and John Butler Trio.

Every year, you can’t really go wrong with the Triple J Hottest 100. It brings a taste of new and old genres of alternative as well as usually sneaking in a frustratingly high pitched or just plain weird pop/dance song (which is in the form of PNAU for this volume). Get your hands on one, before they all melt away.

I really don't know what's getting into you people, if you don't vote for true alternative jjj tacks then you make a mickey mouse cd.ie. Kanye west(Even though its a daft punk song)? Missy Higgins? Pnau? And Silverchair is as common as Kylie.

The best girls song of all time in jjj 100 was veruca salt seether no. 4 and while the cranberries was good, nothing else has come close and won't for a very long time( the waifs) are ok
