Powderfinger returns home for their Upstairs at the Downstairs Tour

The Upstairs at the Downstairs Tour will be Powderfinger's first return to theatres in Australia in 8 years.

After rocking out to packed stadiums last year, POWDERFINGER are hitting the road again to bring fans their own personal and intimate concert experience to theatres around Australia in June. The Upstairs at the Downstairs Tour will be their first return to theatres in Australia in 8 years.

Always bringing something new to the table, fans will get the ultimate POWDERFINGER concert with the best of both sides of the band as they perform two, hit-filled sets – one acoustic followed by a second rock set with intermission in between.

If this wasn’t enough ticket buyers will have the opportunity to choose the band’s set list by voting for their favourite songs online, bringing about another layer of interactivity for the audience as they get to hone the bands acoustic and electric sets. This really is the definitive POWDERFINGER concert experience.

“For this tour we’re doing something a little different, something a little more intimate. We’re trying a concept we’ve never done before on a tour, and that is to split the show into two halves. One of our main focuses for this tour is to make it a little more personal and have more interaction with our fans and what they would like to hear us play. Hence, they’re choosing our set list ... we will be at their mercy!” said guitarist Darren Middleton.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, 11 April. There will be early bird tickets for members of the fan club (new fans can sign up before hand at www.powderfinger.com). These tickets will be available through links from their fan club newsletter and will go on sale on Thursday, 10 April at 9.00am.

Saturday, 29 March also sees POWDERFINGER release the fourth single Who Really Cares (featuring the sound of insanity) from their critically acclaimed multi platinum album, Dream Days at the Hotel Existence. This will be an exclusive iTunes release and features a previously unreleased B-side One More Kiss As You Fly Away.

The video for Who Really Cares (featuring the sound of insanity) is also available online from 29 March and features footage from the Across The Great Divide tour, which Powderfinger embarked on with Silverchair in 2007. The song was a huge crowd favourite during the ATGD Tour, and the video captures the essence of what makes this song so special. It was arguably the biggest Australian tour in twenty years and saw the band play to over 220,000 fans. The Across the Great Divide tour DVD was released in December 2007 has now been certified Triple Platinum.

Dream Days at the Hotel Existence – The Deluxe Edition, 2 disc set is OUT Saturday, 19 April and includes a bonus DVD featuring POWDERFINGER Live in Concert Max Sessions filmed at the Sydney Opera House late last year. Special guests on this extraordinary concert for National Breast Cancer Month include Missy Higgins, Nic Cester (Jet) and Kev Carmody.

Finally, Australia’s most amazing new troubadour WHITLEY will be supporting the tour around Australia. Whitley is best known as a contradiction. Although the mischievous 23-year-old exudes cheeky wit, his music and lyrics paint him as an old soul, his words steeped in nostalgia. The young Victorian draws you into his private world of whispered, whimsical tales of love and loss. From the opening bars of Whitley's charming debut album The Submarine, his intricate storytelling and striking arrangements display a musical maturity beyond his years.

The tour will be a carbon-neutral event. Please go to www.powderfinger.com for more detail.
